Health Officials Keeping Close Eye on Flu Season

Ontario has prime conditions for flu virus spread

After taking a break the past two years, Ontario's flu season could come back with a vengeance this year.

Health Officials are keeping a close eye on Australia's flu season which usually sets the tone for ours.

An Infectious disease specialist with Ontario's University Health Network telling Global News Australia's flu season has come in like a lion and started earlier than usual.

Ontario's flu season was mild the past two years thanks to pandemic restrictions of masking, social distancing and lockdowns.

With things back to normal throughout the province, health officials say "it's prime conditions for the flu virus to circulate."

The province says the flu vaccine will be rolled out in line with priority groups.

The elderly, residents in long-term care, hospitalized patients, health care workers and the immunocompromised getting their jabs first.

To date, 12 cases of the flu have been reported in Ontario.
