Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott has received her first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Elliott announced last week she would get the AstraZeneca vaccine in order to curb fears about the shot causing blood clots.
Health Canada says that the benefits of the shot outweigh the risks, and the European Medicines Agency found no evidence of claims that the vaccine increases the risk of blood clots.
Elliott is urging other Ontarians to get their shot when it is their turn to do so.
Today I received my first dose of the #COVID19Vaccine. I encourage everyone to book an appointment as soon as it's your turn. Until Ontario receives enough supply so that everyone who wants a vaccine can receive one, please continue following public health advice. pic.twitter.com/YV9o5AXI0z
