Health Canada looking into claims that Domperidone can cause severe psychological reaction when some women stop using the drug
Health Canada is conducting a safety review on the drug Domperidone.
The medication is approved in Canada for gastrointestinal symptoms, but is frequently prescribed off-label to increase breastmilk supply.
The organization says it's looking into reports that some mothers suffered psychiatric symptoms after they stopped taking the drug.
The FDA has banned Domperidone in the US due to potential cardiac side effects.
Officials say when the drug is used for lactation, it's often prescribed in doses higher than approved by Health Canada.
