If you go to an arena or community centre in Grimsby, there's a good chance you'll be reminded of behaving properly.
The town is backing the Rzone Code of Conduct... with signs to respect yourself, respect others and have responsibility for your actions.
Councillor Nick DiFlavio wonders how this will be enforced. "I wouldn't expect staff members to put themselves in harm's way, when there's an incident of violence, and I guess calling the police would be a response. But, what would that look like from a response perspective, from a facility that's staffed versus one that's not."
Aside from calling police, Recreation Supervisor Krista Bowie says they'll be working on ways to communicate this policy to the public.
Director of Community Services Sarah Sweeney says it'll be easier in staffed facilities, but not others. "Especially if it's particularly 'he said, she said', and there's not really enough good content, or confidence that we can apply to saying with certainty that something happened. But, sometimes there is, maybe there's a team, or a family that comes forward with evidence."
