The Niagara Falls MPP says he's been working on all day service for 10 years, after just learning Niagara is not on list
It's a fight Niagara Falls NDP MPP says he's been at for 10 years... all day GO train service to Niagara Falls.
Speaking at Queen's Park yesterday, Wayne Gates accused the Conservatives in 2014 of saying no to the train, and no to the new hospital.
He added they've since made some progress, but more is needed. "Metrolinx is expanding GO train trips all over Ontario, yet Niagara Falls is not on the list, where we have 14-million tourists every year. Our region is growing, and so is better demand for transit."
He learned service is increasing from Kitchener, to Milton, Toronto, Oshawa and Barrie.
He told the legislature Niagara is growing, and ridership to the region by 67% last year.
"We need to ease the traffic on our highways, protect our environment, help support tourism, and give commuters a break. I've raised this numerous times with different governments, and the CEO of Metrolinx."
He said ridership increased 377,000 in 2022.
