Garbage Removal Rates to Drop

Niagara Region says it has passed a 0-budget increase

Some relatively good news from the Niagara region when it comes to garbage and recycling removal.

The region has passed what it calls a 0-budget increase, saying most residents will see a reduction of the waste management levy.

It adds while some municipalities might see increase of charges due to growth, which is covered by those developments, rates will not go up for existing residents.

When looking at figures released by the region for what the average Niagara household will pay, there's a drop of a few dollars from this year to next year.

The amount charged to municipalities for waste services is based on the number of residential units, and primarily charged to residents based on special tax rates, by the region and applied to assessed value of households.
