Fort Erie Man found Not Guilty in Assault

A man previously convicted of aggravated assault after a 61-year-old man sustained life-altering injuries, has been found not criminally responsible for another violent incident.

22 year old Seth Woelke appeared in an Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines yesterday to answer to a charge of assault with a weapon.

Although the Fort Erie resident pleaded not guilty, he did not contest the facts presented by the Crown.

On April 22, court heard, the defendant brandished a six-inch knife and charged at a man standing near a neighbourhood mailbox in Fort Erie.

Two Niagara Regional Police officers were assaulted during the course of the arrest, and the defendant was struck by a taser several times.

Both officers sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The case has been deferred to the Ontario Review Board for disposition.
