Charles Sousa wins for the liberals in by-election
A federal by-election in the Toronto area has sent a well known liberal candidate to Ottawa.
Voters in the Mississauga-Lakeshore riding decided on Ontario's former finance minister Charles Sousa, who handily won 51 per cent of the vote, beating out about 40 other opponents.
He topped his nearest rival, Conservative police officer Ron Chhinzer, by 14%.
The byelection was called after former Liberal M-P Sven Spengemann said earlier this year that he would resign to pursue a new job at the United Nations.
