UPDATE: Ron Kore has confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
In his official statement, the Pelham town councillor says Public Health contacted him on April 13th and informed him that he had been in contact with someone with the virus.
He says he asked to be tested for the virus, but the Public Health nurse said he didn’t require one.
Kore reached out to his doctor to schedule a test for him and says the only time he left his home between April 13th and April 17th was to be tested.
He received his positive test results on April 20th.
Kore says Public Health has given him permission to resume normal activities of work because he is no longer infectious, but he has decided to remain in self-isolation for 14 days.
During the time of the March 23rd council meeting, Kore says he and his wife were monitoring themselves for COVID-19 symptoms and he decided to sit at a table by himself in order to distance himself from others.
Kore says he would never risk his health, the health of his wife, employees or colleagues at Town Hall.
He believes the town’s response to the matter has been reckless and irresponsible.
Premier Doug Ford says you should go to public health or the local media if someone of authority is abusing their power.
He also says going out in public with COVID-19 symptoms is just like walking around with a loaded gun in your hands.
Ford was asked about the allegations surrounding Pelham councillor Ron Kore during Saturday’s press conference.
The Voice of Pelham reported last week, that Kore went to work at the Fonthill Sobeys while experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
He has been temporarily removed as franchise operator.
Kore also appeared to show symptoms of the virus during a town council meeting last month.
His fellow councillor Mike Ciolfi passed away on April 13th.
Ciolfi’s cause of death has not been released, but there have been several reports that he did test positive for COVID-19 before his passing.
The NRP had launched an investigation into the matter, but quickly determined that a criminal inquiry was not an appropriate course of action.
