A convoy of over 250 tractors rolled into Simcoe today to protest migrant worker restrictions.
SIMCOE - Over 250 tractors rolled through Norfolk County today to protest the restrictions around migrant workers.
The group who organized this is called the Farmers of Ontario's Garden.
Speaking at the event, Organizer Frank Schonberger says Norfolk and Ontario have some of the strictest migrant worker restrictions in the entire country.
"The Farmers of Ontario's Garden want to help Canadians safe, fresh and nutritious food and we need your help. We are asking for all levels of Government to work together on a multi level task force and put together a Government run quarantine plan for migrant workers."
Schonberger wants Ontario follow B.C.'s lead.
The Government of British Columbia is implementing such a plan again this year for the second time, they obviously value their farmers and the temporary foreign workers and see the need to help farmers in that province in the effort to feed Canadians."
Norfolk Mayor Kristal Chopp spoke at the event. Reporter Marcie Culbert was there and captured her speech on video.
Farmers are warning we could face a shortage of locally grown fruits and vegetables this year and beyond if immediate action is not taken.
