Education Minister Defends Decision to Not Make Vaccines Mandatory for Educators

Stephen Lecce says thousands could lose their jobs

Lecce was asked by the NDP during question period in the legislature yesterday why the province hasn’t moved to ensure educators are fully vaccinated.

Lecce says if they did up to 50,000 education workers including EA’s, board staff and custodians would be fired at a time when the sector is facing staffing challenges

The Minister adding unvaccinated staff members must produce a negative COVID-19 test twice a week before entering a school.

More than 85 per cent of education staff in the province are fully vaccinated.
