DSBN Joins Lawsuits Against Social Media

The Niagara board is teaming with other boards across Ontario, alleging social media companies design products for compulsive use

The District School Board of Niagara is joining the chorus of school boards in suing social media companies.

In fact, the Niagara board is teaming with new boards, including some from Ottawa and Toronto, as well as two private schools in Ontario to go after Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat.

The newest suits and those filed in March allege the social media companies are negligently designed for compulsive use and have rewired the way children think, behave and learn.

The lawsuits say that has left teachers and schools to handle the consequences.

These newest lawsuits are worth almost $2.6-billion, and the ones in March total $4.5-billion.
