CRA Issues Warning About Grocery Rebate Scam

The CRA says fraudster have sent messages to people offering them the new grocery rebate

The Canada Revenue Agency is warning Canadians about a new fraud.

The agency says scammers have been sending emails and text messages, offering people the new grocery rebate.

In the messages, the fraudsters are pretending to work for the CRA.

"The CRA reminds all Canadians to beware of fraudulent telephone calls, emails, or text messages claiming to be from the CRA. These are scams that could result in identity and financial theft," the agency says.

Anyone who is eligible for the grocery rebate will either have a check mailed to them or have the funds automatically deposited into their back account.

The CRA also notes it never uses texts or instant messages to contact anyone, under any circumstance.

However, someone could get a call from them if they owe money or file their taxes late.
