Canada's top doctor growing concerned
After several weeks of levelling off, COVID-19 cases are on the rise again, prompting concern from Canada's chief medical officer of health.
Doctor Theresa Tam says the increase is linked to more contagious virus variants, with a higher infection rate reported among Canadians aged 20 to 39.
Meantime, provincially the numbers were up again yesterday
Ontario reported more than 1,700 new COVID-19 cases, but officials say it may be partly due to a data catch-up in the provincial system.
But it was a marked increase from Saturday's 1,468 infections
And closer to home Niagara Public Health says there were 33 new infections yesterday and 27 on Saturday.
