Community Living Needs Financial Help

St. Catharines group will meet with province June 18th, to discuss its #5toSurvive campaign

The tough economic environment facing many businesses is weighing down a St. Catharines organization that supports people with developmental or intellectual disabilities.

Susan Fielding-York is the CEO of Community Living, and tells us they're meeting with provincial politicians June 18th, asking for another 5% in funding support.

"If we do not receive that, then unfortunately we're going to have to either reduce services, or sell off some assets.  In the province many have already gone that route, but in Niagara we're really hoping we don't have to do that, and impact the families we support."

She adds the meeting will involve branches of the organization province-wide.

"We have tried to do more with less, and we've tried to make ends meet.  But what we're saying now is we need a bare minimum of 5%, to move forward, even though the cost of living over the last 30 years has increased 60%, we can't absorb anymore."
