Colleges throughout the province are now accepting applications to Ontario's accelerated program for personal support workers.
As part of their Long-Term Care Staffing Plan, the government is providing $115 million to train up to 8200 personal support workers for positions in the long-term care and health sectors.
This is one of the largest recruitment and training efforts for PSW's in the history of Ontario.
The fully-funded program is being offered at all 24 publicly-assisted colleges in the province.
It's a tuition-free opportunity for 6,000 new students, and will only take six months to complete.
After three months of classes and experiential learning in a clinical setting, the final three months will be completed in paid onsite experience in either a home and community care environment or in a long-term care home.
In addition, students currently taking PSW programs will be able to receive a $2,000 grant from the province to help them finish their studies.
