City of Port Colborne Hires Architect to Design Waterfront Centre

J.P. Thomson Architects hired to design Port Colborne waterfront centre.

A big step forward for plans to construct a waterfront centre in Port Colborne.

During Tuesday night's council meeting, council accepted a recommendation to hire J.P. Thomson Architects for the job.

The process of evaluating proposals started in-mid February, and the recommendation was made by a committee of staff members from several city departments.

"We received ten proposals in total. Most of them were excellent, which made it very difficult to narrow down the pool to just one," said Gary Long, manager of strategic initiatives.

Since 1936, J.P. Thomson Architects has been developing sites and designing buildings for the education, cultural, government and institutional sectors.

In May, the City will meet with the firm and the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation to discuss a concept for the waterfront centre.

The project, which is expected to transform the town's Detroit River waterfront into a multi-amenity facility, is expected to be completed later this spring.
