City of Welland tearing out old cedar trees, replacing with improvements to area
Old cedar trees and stumps are being removed from Chippawa Park in Welland.
The city says this is part of the ongoing landscape rejuvenation and safety enhancements of the park.
The project is in its third phase, which is the removal of old trees.
That follows with grading of the property, replanting native trees and seeding the remaining area.
The city also tells us this work is due to concerns raised by area residents, community groups, and law enforcement.
Welland's Green Advisory Committee reviewed the plan, and picked native trees underscoring commitment to environmental sustainability.
The city's manager of parks says this was done with a thoughtful, environmental approach, while preserving the park's natural beauty.
