Building Owner Fined for No Smoke Alarm

This is a result of a fire on Thorold Road in February, fortunately everyone escaped

Yet another reminder from Welland fire department of the critical importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.

Back in February, fire fighters responded to a scene on Thorold Road, quickly putting the fire out, and there were no injuries.

As the fire department looked deeper into this, they found no working smoke alarms, and the occupants told them it was an unlicensed short-term rental that had been leased.

The occupant woke in the middle of the night, discovered the smoke, and got the family out safely.

The owner of the property was convicted this month, and fined $25,000, pursuant to the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
