He was Canada's 18th Prime Minister.

OTTAWA - Former prime minister Brian Mulroney had died at the age of 84.

He was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada, leading the country from 1984 to 1993.

He is also the father of Caroline Mulroney, Ontario's Minister of Francophone Affairs. She announced his death in a post on X yesterday evening, saying he died peacefully and surrounded by family.

The Mulroney family stated last summer that the former PM had been improving daily after undergoing a heart procedure. He also received treatment for prostate cancer in early 2023.

Brian Mulroney led the federal Conservatives to the largest majority mandate in history when he was elected Prime Minister in 1984, but he also left office with the lowest approval rating in the history of polling.
