Migrants sent back to Canada

A U.S. law enforcement agency says three Mexican migrants trying to enter the U.S. have been sent back to Canada.

On April 26th, border officials in the Niagara River area noticed suspicious activity on the International Railroad Bridge.

After a search effort, U.S. Border Patrol officers in Buffalo identified the men, who were taken to the Buffalo Border Patrol station.

Officers discovered the trio were from Mexico, and after they were processed, they were sent back to Canada.

"Protecting our borders requires the whole of government approach, and close integration amongst all law enforcement partners, said Marc Sledge, Director, Air and Marine Operations, Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch. In this example, Air and Marine Operations assets were critical in providing real time information to the Border Patrol to do what they do best, preventing illegal entry into the United States between the ports of entry."

The agency says the rail bridge connecting Buffalo and Fort Erie is one of the most treacherous and dangerous pathways used to illegally enter'' the country."

Within the last 60 days, 24 non-citizens have been caught trying to cross into Buffalo.
