Charges laid against Ssonix Products and its directors
St. Catharines Fire Services has laid 84 charges in connection with a deadly explosion at a hazardous waste facility in St. Catharines.
The incident occurred at Ssonix Products on Keefer Road on January 12th, 2023, and killed 37 year old worker Ryan Konkin.
The explosion took place around 6:30 a.m. in the morning, and was followed by a fire and a few smaller explosions.
Several homes and businesses in the area were forced to evacuate.
Officials say the company and it's three directors each face 21 charges.
"The charges laid in connection with the Keefer Road incident underscore our commitment to keeping our community safe,” said Fire Chief Dave Upper. “We will continue to work diligently to ensure a thorough and fair legal process. Our thoughts remain with those affected by this incident as we move towards a resolution."
The first court appearance will take place at the end of next month.
