Organization thanking different groups for making Fort Erie and Welland sites possible
A progress update for Welland city council on the construction of a new Hospice Niagara location.
Executive Director Carol Nagy says the future Walker House, thanks to donations from Walker Industries, is 20% finished.
"I want to thank the city of Welland for their generous donation towards the hospice build, of $250,000. That helped to ensure we were able to get this build off the ground. I'm pleased to say we have other municipal partners that have helped out as well," she says.
She adds between public donations, the provincial government, and Hospice Niagara, they're at 91-percent of needed funding for Welland and Fort Erie sites.
The Fort Erie site is in its final design stage. "We also have a robust volunteer program, and this is really the heart of hospice care that helps us to run our programs every year. We will be looking at expanding our volunteers which we have about 300 right now, to over 700 across the region."
Hospice Niagara plans to add 20 new beds across the region.
