
Police issue 176 tickets for speeding, aggressive and distracted driving, and more
Police across Niagara issued 176 tickets yesterday, as part of the Back to School Traffic Safety and Awareness Day.
Officers focused on areas near schools and the region's 13 community safety zones.
As well, some officers followed school buses looking for drivers who didn't yield or stop for buses that were loading or unloading kids.
Police say 176 tickets were issued, with the majority being for speeding.
In addition, 56 warnings were also issued, with the majority given out for speeding.
Around 9:00 a.m. yesterday, police also stopped a school bus traveling at 72 km/h in a community safety zone, where the speed limit is 50 km/h.
The driver was spotted heading northbound on Louth Street in St. Catharines.
At the time, five kids were onboard.
