110kms to be Permanent on Certain Highways

This includes a section of Highway 406, from Thorold to Welland, starting July 12th

You'll be able to drive at 110kms an hour between Thorold and Welland on Highway 406, and others, following a change by the provincial government.

Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria was in Hamilton this morning, announcing a test of the higher speed on certain highways will stay permanent starting July 12th.

The test, from 100 to 110, was in place since 2019.

10 additional sections will change, including much of the 401, as well as the 403, 416 and Highway 69 from Sudbury to French River.

The Transport Minister says most Ontario highways were built to safely accommodate higher speeds.

The government adds Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan have a maximum limit of 110, but in British Columbia it's 120km/h.
