The Day of the Dead is a Mexican festivity from the Aztec times, modified and adapted by different cultures and societies over the years. The primary purpose is to remember our loved ones who have passed away in a happy tradition where we can be with them, keep in contact with them, and bring their favourite food, music, and something unique and mindful to enjoy together in the celebration.
The Festival had five main components:
Community Offering Creation (Ofrenda de Dia de Muertos):
Build the offering with personal objects and pictures to remember our loved ones. People will be encouraged to bring their decorations and art creations to celebrate The Day of the Dead in Niagara.
Live music concerts:
There will be two live music band concerts.
First: La Fondita Musical -An acoustic concert featuring classic Mexican Boleros music. Second: La Fondita Musical -Pop Mexican Music.
Day of the Dead costumes contest:
For the 2024 Festival, we will include a Day of the Dead costumes contest, where participants will dress up and make up to become Catrinas, Catrins, or skeletons. The public will nominate the contest's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, which will recipe the corresponding prices.
Authentic Traditional Mexican Food And Drinks:
This year, we will have traditional food from the Niagara region's local businesses, Tamales Mexico.
Kids' zone for the little ones and the not-so-little,
with one section of "La Loteria" (Mexican Bingo) games with prizes for the winners and a station for handcrafted activities in the evening.
