New program will connect Black youth with a Black mentor, to help them see themselves in aspirational career fields.

The DSBN is teaming up with TOES Niagara for a new Black mentorship program.

The "What They See is What They Will Be" program will pair a Black youth with a Black community leader, to help them reach their goals.

"This mentorship program is a fundamental disruption to anti-Black racism, and a critical step in building the capacity and support for future Black leaders within their community," said TOES Niagara Executive Director Nyarayi Kapisavanhu. "It not only answers a call from young Black people to be connected to leaders and role models, but also to the need to support and facilitate adult role models so that they can share their experience in a way that is sensitive to anti-Black racism."

The program is made possible thanks to a grant from the Niagara Community Foundation.

Students will also participate in workshops on civic engagement, Black history, financial literacy, mental health and more.
